Keep component samples and notes together

Use a small card or container for each component sample. Record its name, dimensions, finish, supplier and date if you know them. Keep manufacturer information with the sample and leave unknown details blank rather than guessing.

Compare the actual sample with the sketch under the light where you expect to work. Note color, texture and scale in your own words. Photographs can help with reference, but they may not show a finish or surface accurately.

After the project, add what you learned about fit and handling. Keep the record focused on observable details so it remains useful if you return to the design later.
